Wilderness Trips at New Hope Academy
While at New Hope Academy Teen Challenge each student will have the opportunity to participate in a 5-7day wilderness trip, our Back Country Classroom. This wilderness trip is designed to facilitate character development, teamwork, and self confidence. During the trip the students are challenged physically, socially and spiritually. New Hope Academy Teen Challenged uses the wilderness because it is a great classroom for experiential education.
"The goal of wilderness ministry is simply to take the protective lid off of people and expose them to reality so they can experince the transforming power of God in their lives. There are many fringe benefits from such a minsitry; building self esteem and a sense of accomplishment, group building and developing leadership skills to mention a few. The bottom line goal, however , is that every participant come out the other end knowing that God's Word will transform his life if he will simply submit to Him. In some the response is immediate; in others it is not apparent for a long time, but no one comes out quite the same as they went in." from Why Wilderness by (Pilgrimage Educational Resources)
